Objectivos:
* Synthesis of new polymer alloys, like IPNs in which the polymers are designed to give a structure with useful viscoelastic properties.
* Combination of these alloys with the nanofiller to give viscoelastic control through the material design.
* Development of suitable manufacturing processes to obtain these nanocomposites.

Resumo:
Regarding mechanical properties, the use of nanocomposites is very clearly defined in literature. For example, the polymer composites incorporating nanoparticles as natural clay montmorillonite or bentonites has a natural nano-layer structure that limits the permeation of gases, and provides substantial improvements in nanocomposites’ gas barrier properties. Such improvements have a potential use in, for example, a variety of food-packaging applications. However, there is a real lack of industrial impact of the materials, especially in the achievement of the nano size in the case of fillers dispersion within the polymer.
This projects aims at
Finding easily industrialisable ways to incorporate fillers with real nano size
facilitate the industrialization of the incorporation of nano size fillers.
Improving the RIM procedure and the use of a pre-extrusion process before impregnation
Controling the viscoelastic-properties of the composite through control of the nanostructure of the composite.
