ValuePAM: meeting of the Technical Committee, Mértola (PT), 17/01/2018

Categoría Management of projects approved

The ValuePAM project technical committee met on January 17, in Portugal, at the headquarters of the main beneficiary of the project, the Association for the Study and Protection of the Natural and Cultural Heritage of Mértola Council (ADPM). The aim of meeting was to analyse the progress of the project with respect to the promotion of the sector of aromatic and medicinal plants (MAPs) and to visit local companies specialised in the collection, transformation and sale of MAPs, in order to identify and transfer good practices among companies of the sector in the partner regions of the project: Andalusia, Catalonia, Portugal and France (SUDOE area).

In this context, the visited companies were “Herdade de Vale Covo”, in Corte Sines, in the Valle del Guadiana Natural Park; and the first transformation factory of CEVRM, project partner located in Castro Verde. These are experimental exploitations of the domestication of MAPs indigenous wild species, which have the dual objective of maintaining biodiversity and improving the commercial profitability of these species, contributing to the local economy through the commercial valorisation of an indigenous resource.
