TiChroN, winner of the Commission Choice Award given by the EC under the Interreg Slam 2023 competition

Categoría Sudoe projects

The project TiChroN, which aims to improve the lives of children and adolescents with chronic diseases through the use of new technologies, has won the "Commission Choice Award", a prize awarded by the European Commission in the framework of the Interreg Slam 2023 competition. The final of the competition took place on 26 October in Santiago de Compostela (Spain), in front of almost 350 participants from all Interreg programmes and the European Commission, at the Interreg Annual Event.

As one of the 5 finalists of the Interreg Slam competition, some partners of TiChroN created and performed a short storytelling competition to present the solutions proposed by the project. On behalf of the Sudoe programme, we congratulate Abraham Delgado, technician of the chronicity office at the SCS (Servicio Cántabro de Salud), Paloma Álvarez, European project manager at the Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria Valdecilla (IDIVAL); and "little Elisa" for her performance.

The Slam was recorded and you can watch Paloma and Abraham's performance from minute 22:45 onwards by clicking on this link.

We would also like to congratulate the other four finalists who presented equally interesting Interreg projects, as well as the people who performed in these short skits.

What kind of solutions does TiChroN offer to the citizenship?

TiChroN has focused on implementing an action protocol capable of responding to the specific health needs of children with chronic diseases (diabetes, obesity, asthma), integrating the patient's entire environment: family, medical, school and social.

For this purpose, TiChroN has created optimised management and early intervention tools for high-risk situations in children, based on the use of new technologies, with the aim of avoiding hospital admissions and the appearance of high-risk situations undetected by those around the children.

These tools enable children and those around them to improve their skills and competences in managing their illnesses.

The 3 tools developed and available for free are:

  • TiChroN Virtual Pet
  • Online learning platform
  • Chatbox

You can access these tools via this link.

These solutions are closely related to the acquisition of skills, the theme chosen by the European Union for 2023, the European Year of Skills.
