The SHCity project is a finalist in the European ILUCIDARE Awards, an event co-organized by the European Commission and Europa Nostra. These awards recognize projects for their excellence in heritage innovation and international heritage relations. The two winners will be announced in autumn 2020. The SHCity project in Ávila participates in the first category with the Baluarte project in the Netherlands and the Estonian Museum of Printing and Paper, dedicated to the conservation of printed and paper heritage and the promotion of international relations.
The SH City project has created a technological platform for the management and conservation of historic urban complexes, first implemented, as a pilot, in the city of Ávila, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Thus, throughout the three years of the project, 29 spaces of the historic complex were monitored with a network of 215 sensors and devices that control in real time about twenty environmental or structural parameters, as well as others related to security, energy consumption or number of visitors. This management tool has been supplemented by a mobile application to facilitate the tourist experience in the complex.
